Federalism: A great argument for Fred Thompson

In my opinion, broadly stated, the biggest problem in American politics today is a complete lack of respect for the principle of federalism. It's something I've written about many times in these pages, usually complaining that so-called conservatives believe in using the federal government to implement policies for which there is no constitutional authority. Our Congress, President, and Supreme Court all routinely ignore the 9th and 10th Amendments and abandon their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution. It is therefore with great pleasure that I read the following article by likely presidential candidate Fred Thompson. His record, or what I've read of it so far, shows a greater focus on federalism and respecting the Constitution than any other legislator I've seen. It's true that he made a big mistake in supporting the McCain-Feingold Incumbent Protection Act, but he seems to be seeing the error of his ways there. In any case, I urge you to read this piece by Fred Thompson: Talking about Federalism By Fred Thompson Monday, April 23, 2007 http://www.townhall.com/columnists/FredThompson/2007/04/23/talking_about_federalism
